Virtual Puerto Rico Tours

By Cecelie Tonero

Quarantine in California has cancelled millions of events until around September. Families are forced to cancel vacations to stay home and be safe. Discover Puerto Rico is taking their travelers to the next level by launching virtual tours via google world. It gives a safe opportunity for people to “visit” another country from the comfort of their own home.

These virtual tours are guided live tours that last about 30 minutes each, you can view them on Discover Puerto Rico’s facebook page. They all begin at around 5pm, perfect timing for the whole family. Jorge Montalvo, founder of Patria Tours, guided the first week’s tours that started Sunday May 3rd through Saturday May 9th.

The CEO of Discover Puerto Rico, Brad Dean, has said that he and the tourism board are working on ways they can travel virtually. “Through these and other activations we’ve been offering, we’ve not only been able to keep Puerto Rico top of mind, reminding travelers of everything that will be waiting for them when the time is right to travel again, but it’s also given us the opportunity to highlight valued members of the local tourism industry.” (https://www.forbes.com/sites/micheleherrmann/2020/05/01/discover-puerto-rico-tours-google-earth/#48318c9d537d

The different tours are categorized into different events that could take place on a tour in Puerto Rico. One of the tours on Tuesday, May 5 was “Discover the natural wonders of Puerto Rico”. This tour takes you to El Yunque, which is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S National Forest Service. The tour also takes you to Playa Negra, a famous black sand beach, and Cueva Ventana, a very famous historic cave. These are just some of the destinations that the tours will guide you to.

These tours might not be as amazing as getting to experience these places in person, but it is a great chance to learn about Puerto Rico and plan for a vacation as soon as we are able. It is definitely something to check out during these times.
