Writers’ Strike Against Hollywood Studios Rages On.

If you have been in any conversations surrounding movies, or been on social media, you have most likely heard of the strike going on in Hollywood. If not, this article can offer you insight to the situation.

About 3.5 months ago, the WGA (Writers Guild of America) went on strike arguing for better working conditions, payment structures, and the threat of AI possibly replacing some people in that space. Then, in July, the WGA’s sister union SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) joined in the strike for the reason that streaming studios weren’t paying actors off of streaming revenue.

Since then, there have been notable celebrities who have spoken their opinion of the strike, many in support of it. In regards to the strike, well renowned actor Steve Buscemi said, “We are here because so much is at stake — fair pay, revenue sharing, health care, retirement funding, a fair casting process, AI protection and fair compensation”.

Once the actors went on strike, production in studios truly slowed down. Without performers, there was no work that could be done. Media has been delayed indefinitely, including movies, and popular shows Euphoria, Abbott Elementary, and Stranger things.

Fans, outraged at these delays have now also taken to social media and have banded together in support of writers and performers. Twitter, Instagram, and other popular social media platforms have flooded people’s feed with information and updates as well as voicing sympathy for the actors. Many call for the studios to agree to the actors’ demands.

Even after all of this time spent on strike, neither SAG-AFTRA/WGA or the studios have budged in negotiations, meaning, this strike is still ongoing.
