The 2022 defensive player of the year, Nick Bosa, is on track to becoming one of the highest-paid defensive players in the league. However, there have been some conflicting issues, with both sides not coming to a reasonable deal yet. As of today, Nick Bosa is currently in New York with his agent, maybe discussing a long-term deal with the 49ers or with another team. Nick Bosa is even willing to sit out regular-season games until he gets paid for the upcoming 2023 NFL season. Nick Bosa wants at least a bigger contract than Rams DT Aaron Donald, who is currently the highest-paid defensive player in the league.
Nick Bosa’s achievements for the 49ers have been quite extraordinary, from winning rookie of the year his first year in the league to now winning defensive player of the year. Bosa had the second-highest QB pressure last year, as well as 18.5 sacks, which were league-leading in sacks and 10 assists. During the 2020 season, when Nick Bosa tore his ACL, you could see the big impact of how horrible the 49ers defense was because they were missing such a key part without Bosa. That year on the D-line, the Niners went 6-10, then compared to the 2019 season, which helped them acquire a record of 13-3 and a superbowl shot. Just the season prior, he finished with 15.5 sacks and helped them get to the NFC championship twice.
What Nick Bosa is doing, in my opinion, is completely understandable. He has carried this team practically on his back during many moments, and he has been there through the highs and lows. Nick Bosa was personally a main reason why the Niners have gone to back-to-back NFC championships. Leading the league in sacks last and second in QB pressures is a big win if you look at the d-line market today and see how competitive these guys are, especially with their work ethic. From a perspective, we can see that he is out those eight games due to not getting paid, which will put a lot of pressure on the younger players, and the D-line will not be as effective as when he is playing. I could say for myself that Bosa has probably the best work ethic out of all of them, who are in fact the highest-paid defensive players in the league. With all due respect, Nick Bosa deserves every single penny he is asking for.
