16 Dead And More Injured by Bus Carrying Migrants Crashes Into Freight Truck

  In Mexico City a bus carrying multiple migrants crashed into a freight truck. At least 16 were killed in this tragic event and 36 of them were injured. This occurred early Tuesday, August 22nd on a highway that connects to the states of Oaxaca and Puebla, this route is known for migrant smugglers. Most of the deceased were mostly Mexican citizens while only one of them was a Venezuelan citizen. Nine of the injured were mostly Venezuelan, all of them were quickly transported to the Tehuacán Hospital which is located in the state of Puebla.

   The Governor of Oaxaca instructed the authorities to tend to the injured. He posted on social media “Lamentamos profundamente el accidente ocurrido en la autopista Tehuacán-Oaxaca, en el kilómetro 91, suscitado hace unas horas. He instruido a los titulares de las dependencias pertinentes colaborar en lo necesario, así como brindar apoyo a las personas heridas.” Trranslating to “We deeply regret the accident that occurred on the Tehuacán-Oaxaca highway, at kilometer 91, which occurred a few hours ago. I have instructed the heads of the relevant agencies to collaborate as necessary, as well as provide support to the injured people.” Tuesdays’ accident comes weeks after another deadly crash which killed 18. This occurred on August 3rd when another bus carrying migrants plummeted into a ravine near the city of Nayarit.

    These were not the only occurrences that have happened in recent times. During July there was a bus in Oaxaca that killed 27 people. There were another 18 killed in another crash in April. In February, migrants from South and Central America crashed and killed 17 people. One of the most deadliest incidents happened in December of 2021, when a trailer that was carrying 160 migrants crashed into a bridge which resulted in 56 deaths. This occurred in the state of Chiapas. Unfortunately, these crashes are some of the main causes of death to migrants.
