The Giants have won eight World Series, which is second in the National League and the fifth most of any MLB franchise. Although no team has officially been eliminated from the playoffs as of yet, the San Francisco Giants are still very much in the running of being contenders.
Around 34 of the MLB’s teams have a chance to make the playoffs. According to B-Ref, the Giants’ odds of making the playoffs are 64.7%, while their chances of winning the National League West are 4.3%. The Giants are presently third in the National League with a record of 68-63.
The Giants have been in a slump this past month, but have recently made a comeback in their game last Sunday winning against the best team in the MLB, the Atlanta Braves. They have been successful since then, and if they continue to win and keep up their streak, they are almost guaranteed to make the playoffs.
Only one Giants player was selected on the original roster to be in the 2023 All-Star game, Camilo Doval. While veteran starting pitcher Alex Cobb was selected to replace Atlanta Braves starter Bryce Elder. Doval is known as one of the top ranked and maybe even first best closers this season and was voted the National League Reliever of the Month in May. With a 3-2 victory in the All-Star game, Doval’s role as the closer helped the National League claim their first MLB All-Star Game win since 2012.
With his powerful pitching and quiet cleverness, he has everything he needs to become one of the best closers in the game. He has given the Giants a genuine closer with his blazing fastball and fierce slider, and he is one of the main factors in the Giants’ progression back to a .500 team this season.
The San Francisco Giants are interested in signing Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Angels’ top pitcher. Ohtani was allegedly interested in joining the Giants before signing with the Angels in 2017. It is reported that he signed with the Angels because they are an American league, and the pitcher also bats for the team, and he felt it was ideal for his career to showcase his amazing batting abilities.
Despite being a pitcher, he is maybe the best batter in Major League Baseball. The Giants would do well to sign Ohtani since he is both an excellent pitcher and hitter.
Although having several players on All-Star teams, we are yet to have a star. Because of their current winning streak, the Giants are extremely likely to enter the playoffs and may even win the National League. All we can do is hope for our team to be the best it can be because they have a lot of talent on the team.
