Hurricane Lee hasn’t been considered a threat by people. However, it has been gaining strength recently. So much so that it is, “exceeding expectations.” Said by Bill Chappell and Russell Lewis in their article. Hurricane Lee is a threat to New England and maybe Maine. It will also swipe Eastern Massachusetts.
Hurricane Lee has maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, and is over open water. Bill Chappell said, “Lee is expected to become a major hurricane on Thursday — a designation for Category 3 storms and above.” This means the sustainable winds would roar at 111 mph on the same day it developed a well-defined eye. The damages that a hurricane can cause are large amounts of destruction in a large area, floods, and can take lives. Buildings are made for this type of weather, but nature can be very unpredictable and tear down what we build in a matter of minutes.
The Hurricane center has repeatedly warned this, “Lee could become very powerful in an exceptionally short time.” This is scary because if Lee’s sustained winds surpass 160 mph as expected, that would make it a category 5 storm. The threshold is 157 mph. It has been said that Hurricane Lee is supposed to hit on Sept, 15, 2023. We can only wait to see what this hurricane will do next. Until then, we have no guarantees.
