In the first week of college football, the unranked North Carolina Duke Blue Devils have angered the South Carolina Clemson Tigers winning 28-7 against the No.9 team in college football. This is one of the biggest upsets in this year’s college football season because Duke is an unranked team. While Clemson plays good ranked teams like Alabama, Georgia, and many other D1 colleges, the Clemson Tigers could not get anything going on that night with turnovers and missed field goals. This loss got the whole football social media stunned on that night.
Clemson quarterback Cade Klubik threw for 209 yards with a touchdown and interception thrown against Duke. Duke didn’t even do that well in the game by having seven penalties and having 17 first downs while Clemson had 29. Even with that, Duke’ defense capitalized on turnovers with recovering two fumbles and running the ball down Clemson’s throat. Without capitalizing on possessions, Duke beat a top-10 team since 1989 which was a historic game for Duke and head coach Mike Elko.
This is a very good start for Duke because they are now ranked No.21 in college football. Clemson drops out of the rankings and starts the season 1-1 which isn’t good for a top ten team in college football. Although it is early, many people are counting out Clemson out of the college football playoffs and probably have too due to the lackluster performance. Clemson plays Florida State on September 23, 2023 who is ranked No.3 in the rankings and coming off beating Charleston College 63-17. While Duke just beat Lafayette 42-7 and started off the season 2-0. This win is probably one of the biggest upsets in college football history.
