Come Join Benicia Panther Clubs

By Nehemiah Perez & Cozette Calderon

Clubs are a major part of socialization at schools. Not only do clubs promote friendships and enjoyment, but they can also heighten your resume for college applications. Here are some clubs that might catch your eye that Benicia High School students offer.

Debate

Looking for a great addition to your college resume? Want to stay up to date on current events? Or maybe you’re just looking to have fun debates on social or school-based topics. Debate Club is the perfect place to hone your argumentative  skills. According to the club’s president, Michael Delgado, who “spoke his truth”, kids should join the debate if they “want to win.” So, if you want the chance to go home with a trophy and have someone to debate with rather than your siblings, join the speech and debate team. The club meets every Monday and Thursday, after school in room O-204.

French Club

Want to know about France? Oui oui? The French Club is the perfect place to expand your knowledge of our friends in the East. The club focuses mainly on “celebrating French culture”, said member Natalia Patterson. Another member added that their favorite part of the club was “the arts and crafts”, along with not needing to “speak French” to be a part of the club. So, if you’re looking for a chance to create a friend group filled with French knowledge and appreciation, check out this club.

Chemistry and Biology Tutoring Club

Want a chance to help others with your chemistry or biology knowledge? Or maybe you’re needing some extra help with your homework. Both needs are satisfied with the Chemistry and Biology Tutoring Club. When asked, the president of the club said the best part of the club is getting to “share knowledge.”  The president also mentioned how, “Chemistry and Biology are my favorite subjects, so it’s nice getting to help others feel better about them.” If you’re interested in getting tutored or learning how to be the best tutor you can be, join the Chemistry and Biology Tutoring Club.

Unicef:

Want to make a difference? Want to help others in need? If so, then The Unicef Club is for you. “The club dedicates time to children in need/helps others,” said Josiah Lagonoy. We asked what the best part of being involved in the club was, and Jellie Siat responded, “Helping, and knowing we are helping, and giving donations feels great.” If you have any further questions, you should check out the club.

D&D (Dungeons and Dragons)

Looking for an outlet to engage in an adventurous fantasy game? Try the Dungeons and Dragons Club. With this club, the difficulty of finding friends who know the rules and find the game engaging is solved. Or if you’re new, you can learn more about the game. When asked about what their favorite part was, club members said “the consistent meeting schedule, along with the new chance to make friends”.

Polynesian Club

Do you love island culture? Or do you wish to learn and understand the culture more deeply?  The Polyneisan club can help out with that. This club was made to teach people about the culture of Polynesia. They meet Biweekly; it is low commitment, high reward, and you get to participate in lessons, art and other crafts, and other activities. The president, Jarren Ponialoha, welcomes questions and is very insightful.
Still feel like you want more suggestions? Check out the Benicia High website to look at all the clubs offered under the tab “Our School”.
