Finding a new book to read is always somewhat stressful for people. You spend hours browsing sites and libraries searching for something that captures your attention. But eventually, the covers bleed together and you find yourself in a slump. Well, worry not! I’m here to present you with my best tips and resources for finding the next book I’m going to read, and how it has helped me find my new favorite books.
- Use Goodreads.com
If you have ever read in your life, you have probably heard about Goodreads. Goodreads is a website where you can find book recommendations, quotes, reviews, and keep track of your own books that you have read or want to read. Goodreads is a great resource for me as it gives you a lot of information about the books, which helps me determine if I want to read it. Goodreads tells you the average rating of books, the number of pages, a synopsis, and a lot more helpful information. You can even friend people and see what your friends are reading and their opinions on different books. It is very useful to keep track of what you want to read and what you have read.
- READ REVIEWS!
One thing that I have learned from reading so many books is that reading reviews before you start a new book can save you a lot of time and energy when you are unsure about whether you will like the book or not. I used to not really read reviews, as I wanted to be able to read books in an unbiased light and make opinions about it as I read. But reading other reviews before I start a new book makes me excited about certain parts of the book, and allows me to know if there are any things that I might not want to read.
- Read when you want to.
There have been many instances where I have forced myself to read a book just to finish it, and not to know the story more. This has led me to not like the book just because I felt unmotivated to read it. So take your time with whatever book you are reading. Reading when you feel excited and motivated lets you enjoy the story more.
- Talk about what you are reading.
Talking about what you are reading with people around you or online opens the door for others to give you new recommendations, and can help build excitement about reading. Talking with people about your opinions of the book you are reading can give you a better understanding of the plot and characters, and can possibly help you realize information you might have missed.
