Hispanic Heritage Month is Here

By Isaiah Figueroa

It is now officially Hispanic Heritage Month!

You might be asking yourself, “What is Hispanic heritage month really about?” It’s a month to honor and celebrate the history of all the culture and the influence from all generations that came to the United States from Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Spain.

This month was originally only a week; it was established in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson’s administration. Years later President Ronald Reagan made this week’s event a month long one instead. This amazing month is celebrated from September 15th through October 15. The reason that it starts mid month is that it is close to when a bunch of hispanic countries gained their independence around this time.

A way that you can celebrate Hispanic culture outside of this month is to join the Hispanic Heritage Club. We play a variety of traditional Hispanic games and watch movies. The best part is we give out free food on special occasions so if you are interested we meet every other Thursday in room H111.Our upcoming meeting is on October 12th. So if you are interested in joining our community please feel free to come join us. We accept everyone. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t Hispanic, we welcome everyone.
