The Best Movie Alternatives If You Don’t Like Slashers

By Corey Bennett

With Halloween coming fast, everyone is trying to figure out what kind of movies to binge watch for that good rush of adrenaline that all horror movies give. We all enjoy the fear that they put into our bodies, but what if you aren’t a big fan of slashers?

Everyone loves slashers, but nowadays it is always the same thing: Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, Scream, and Nightmare on Elm Street. They all have the same exact story line, with some boring killers that never actually catch the main character. The killer always seems to get killed or trapped in the stupidest ways possible. But with these alternatives, you won’t have to worry about that.

One good horror movie that will give you goosebumps is 47 Meters Down. This movie is absolutely amazing. This movie is mainly spent in the water, which provides a creepy, eerie mood to the movie. You never know where the shark may come from and the only light comes from the torches that the characters are using. The best part about this movie? The Sharks! Sharks are the best horror movie villains. They are relentless, unspoken, and scary, and there are just so many ways that you can integrate them into any scenario. This movie is at the top of my list and is a must-watch if you love horror movies.

Another amazing horror movie is Jaws. Not only is this movie a horror classic, but it is still played at drive-in theaters, so it is obviously one of the best. If you haven’t seen this movie before, I highly recommend it. Though this movie was released in 1975, the graphics that they used for the shark are absolutely amazing and, in my opinion, it has some of the best CGI from an older movie. Not only is this a good horror movie, but the book is even better. I think this movie is one of the best films that I have ever seen in my entire life. Except for maybe the 6-Headed Shark Attack.

The last alternative to those boring slasher movies is The Meg. This is a newer movie, but it does not disappoint. Between Jason Statham fist fighting the shark–the shark obviously wins–and the shark biting a boat in half, this movie is amazing. Not only is the CGI in this movie amazing, but the design of the shark and the storyline are some of the best that I have ever seen. Though this movie is not the best story-wise that I have seen, I still believe that it is top-tier and should be watched.

These movies are just some of the top-rated movie alternatives to slashers, with some others being Noah’s Shark, Ouija Shark, and Toxic Shark. If you don’t find any of those movies interesting, then are you even a horror movie fan? Halloween is coming fast, so don’t forget to watch these top-tier movies.
