Revolution Against Mojang

By Corey Bennett

Minecraft has had the mob vote for years. Mojang gives players the chance to vote for the mob that they think should be put into the game. Last year in 2022, it was the Sniffer. Now in 2023, they have given us the choice between a crab, an armadillo, and a penguin. With all of these mobs having their own features that they would add to the game.

However, the popularity of the current mob vote is declining rapidly. Many players are labeling the vote as “lazy” and “absurd.” The Minecraft community is now boycotting the mob vote, with some even going so far as to make propaganda posters. These posters have been often mocked up to closely resemble anti-communist posters.

“The fact that they’re a year off and add like two mobs, a few blocks, and some bug fixes is absurd. I’ve seen modders do that s**t in weeks. . . and then… they open a mob vote as if they can’t just add all three,” says someone in the Minecraft community.

Most people’s rage comes from the fact that everyone loves the mob ideas, but they find it completely unfair that they have to vote for what will get added to the game. It has gotten so bad that a Minecraft player by the name of Holly Mavermorne has started a petition for the Mob Vote to be completely scrapped. At the time of writing this, the petition has already gotten over 350,000 votes. “Many have expressed their discontent with the Mob Vote in the past, with fan favorites like the Moobloom not making it into the game and with content creators mobilizing their fan bases to vote for the least popular option for the joke of screwing over the other voters,” says Mavermorne on their petition page.

This petition has been shared all over TikTok and Twitter. It has gotten to the point that there is so much protest art that “2023 Minecraft Mob Vote Revolution” now has its own page on many websites.

While all of this is going on, the Minecraft Live event is happening this weekend. In this event, Mojang will release the details of Minecraft update 1.21. Many people believe that most of the concerns and complaints will be put to rest at this event, ultimately ending the protest.

Minecraft is a simple yet creative game that gives you the freedom to do whatever you want. However, the community is tired of the same old mob vote and is demanding a change.
