A horrific fire has surrounded the city of Villa Carlos Paz in Argentina. Over 1,000 firefighters have been battling these flames, trying to stop them from spreading to the city. There has even been footage from this fire showing the gruesome flames engulfing everything in its path. The fire was caused by 27-year-old Ulises Xarate. Ulises had started a fire to heat his coffee, but little did he know the flames and strong winds would cause the fire to spread uncontrollably, which he couldn’t do anything about.
Ulises has since been detained by the police and is in questioning as things stand at the moment. It’s not very well known how many homes have been burned down by the fire, but some areas have since been evacuated. Supposedly, even civilians have been helping firefighters with buckets of water and blankets, just trying to contain this fire. Governor of Cordoba Juan Schiaretta has since stated, “I call on the population to respect the indications of the firefighters and authorities who are working in the affected areas. The most important thing is to save lives, wherever evacuation is necessary, it will be done.” Juan is telling civilians not to interfere and help the firefighters, as it could cause lives to be lost.
The government has since sent trucks with potable water as well as food and mattresses for individuals who have been affected. The forests on the edge of Villa Carlos Paz have seen significant fire activity engulf many parts of the forest. With strong winds still a big risk of this fire spreading, it will be hard for the region to be contained for the next few days. We are with the people of Villa Carlos Paz, and I wish a speedy recovery to the people affected.
