On October 5th, Thursday, 51 were killed in a Russian missile strike on a village in the Kharkiv region of eastern Ukraine, reports say.
The missile strike targeted a building which housed a shop and a cafe in the village of Groza within the Kupyansk District. Among the dead were a 6-year old boy and a 62-year old man.
There was no immediate comment made by Russia, which in the past has denied hitting civilian targets.
A memorial service for a fallen Ukrainian soldier home to the village of Groza was taking place within the cafe. This is considered one of the deadliest missile strikes in the Kharkiv region since the beginning of the war in 2021, according to the local government.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed Thursday’s attack as a “demonstrably brutal Russian crime” also “a completely deliberate act of terrorism”
Russian President and former KGB Agent Vladimir Putin is still wanted for war crimes involving the abduction of Ukrainian children, says The International Criminal Court. The warrant out for his arrest has been outstanding since March 17th, 2023.
