Mexico’s Rhythmic Gymnastics Team Stranded in Israel Appeals for Assistance Amid Conflict

A plea for help emerges as the Mexican national rhythmic gymnastics team faces an unforeseen challenge during their overseas training expedition in Israel. Blajaith Aguilar, the team’s coach, recently made an emotional appeal for assistance in an Instagram video shared on Monday.

The team’s training camp took an unexpected and unsettling turn as the Israel-Gaza conflict unfolded. Aguilar, in her video message posted on Monday, explained that her team was in Israel preparing for the upcoming Pan-American Games when the attacks began. She stood alongside five team members, expressing their inability to leave the country due to numerous canceled flights. She issued an urgent appeal to the Mexican government to facilitate their safe return. In response, Mexico’s National Commission of Physical Culture and Sport, an agency responsible for promoting physical education and sports, stated that the team is safe and located away from the conflict.

The Mexican Federation of Gymnastics conveyed that the rhythmic gymnastics team would be among the first groups to depart Israel. Acknowledging Aguilar’s video, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez shared a post on social media on Monday morning, affirming that the state and national governments are collaborating to ensure the teams’ safe return. He further pledged the government’s commitment to support other Jalisco residents currently trapped in Israel.
