In its very first opening weekend this concert film, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”, received a huge amount of $96 million in the box office solely in the US and Canada. Now, it is ranked as the highest grossing concert film domestically in history.
Just 3 hours after the film was open for ticket purchases on Fandango, it had the highest single-day of presales in the website’s history. It is a one of a kind event rarely seen.
Internationally, this film also made $32 million in sales. It was number one in multiple countries’ box offices worldwide, including the UK, Mexico, Australia and more. This dwarfs many of the other new movies in theaters such as “The Exorcist: Believer” which only made $85 million.
As the revenue of the Eras Tour continues through the rest of this year, it has truly become an economy boosting cultural phenomena. This includes not only ticket sales but transportation and hotel use in cities where the tour traveled to.
This film gives fans who couldn’t attend the tour in person a second chance to experience it in the theaters. The movie, directed by Sam Wrench, is nearly 3 hours long and can be seen in almost 4,000 theaters throughout the US and Canada.
“It took less than 24 hours for the Taylor Swift The Eras Tour concert film to shatter AMC’s US record for the highest ticket-sales revenue during a single day in AMC’s 103 year history,” AMC said at the time.
This film will keep business momentum in theaters from the release of “Barbie” over the summer well into the fall. This collection of high grossing and popular films have made movie theaters an epicenter of culture and influence.
