On Monday Night Football, the 49ers were stunned by the Vikings, losing 22-17. The Vikings were torching the 49ers whole defense, throwing 378 yards and allowing zero sacks against the 49ers dominant pass rush. The offensive side of the ball only rushed just for 65 yards and threw for 260 passing yards which is their lowest they ever had this season. This leaves the question, are the 49ers in trouble, or is it just an overreaction?
One of the problems during the game was the defensive side of the ball. Remember, just last year they were the number one defense in the league and now is struggling to create stops and turnovers. Pro football network ranks them at number 6th defense in the league after the two losses from the Cleveland Browns and Minnestosa Vikings. Who’s on the hot seat for this? Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilkins is on watch by everyone, calling a blitz on 4th down and letting rookie receiver Jordan Addison go for 123 yards and two touchdowns. With a change in defensive coordinators from Robert Saleh and Demeco Ryans. Is Steve Wilkins the problem of the defense?
Offensively, the 49ers run game was shut down forcing Brock Purdy to throw against the Vikings blitz. Brock threw for a touchdown and 272 yards, but he did throw two interceptions to cornerback Camryn Bynum. Left tackle Trent Williams and Wide receiver Deebo Samuel were not playing this due to injury which impacted the game a lot. Another question speculates the 49ers, is Brock Purdy a system quarterback? Do the 49ers need superstars to win games? Many people are questioning the 49ers if they are a good team and their super bowl odds.
Everyone has to remember, Brock Purdy is the last pick of the draft pretty good from where he started. He’s only had two bad games and I don’t think that makes him a terrible or system quarterback. I believe the 49ers will be fine throughout the season and Purdy will bounce back. He will miss this week’s game with a concussion during the Vikings game, so the 49ers will play Sam Darnold against the Cincinnati Bengals. This 49ers team is still good and will keep on getting better.
