The highly anticipated 1989 re-recording is finally out! Taylor first introduced this album during her last concert of her Eras Tour at Sofi Stadium, Los Angeles, on August 9, 2023. When the re-recording was announced, an audience of 70,000 fans erupted in a roar, and this event started to trend worldwide! This re-recording was one of her most anticipated releases and the one people longed for the most. Right now, the albums left that she needs to remake are Reputation and her debut album, Taylor Swift.
If you’re wondering what Taylor’s Version means, it all started when Scooter Braun purchased Big Machine Records, which is Taylor’s label. The deal with the label gave Big Machine Records ownership of Taylor’s master recordings, basically meaning that the label owned everything and Taylor didn’t, even though she made it. When Scooter bought her label, everything Taylor made became Scooter’s property and will continue to be his for as long as he owns the label. In 2020, Braun sold the master recordings to a private equity company. Due to all of this, she was inspired to release re-recordings, with the first one being “Fearless”, released on April 9, 2021 (originally released on November 11, 2008).
Originally released on October 27, 2014, the album contained 13 tracks (19 on the deluxe). This new re-recording contains 21 tracks with 5 “From The Vault ” songs. Those songs being “Sl*t!”, “Say Don’t Go”, “Now That We Don’t Talk”, “Suburban Legends”, and “Is It Over Now”. The deluxe version of this album was also released, which contained a feature with Kendrick Lamar on “Bad Blood”.
When 1989 was first released, it spent 11 weeks on top of the Billboard 200 charts. Additionally, this album was certified platinum nine-times by the Recording Industry Association of America. As of now, it has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and has been certified multi-platinum in many different countries. This album dubbed Taylor Swift a “Pop Icon” and won Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards.
