The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Revolutionizing Healthcare

By Ella Stone

In today’s world, Artificial Intelligence is all around us. It’s on our phones when we order food, and it continues to become more widely available.

These new technologies are constantly improving and growing to become more useful—especially in healthcare—and are predicted to become more prominent in the future, making revolutionary global health advancements. These advancements are planned to improve medical diagnoses, treatment, and healthcare delivery, as well as a rapid analysis of data, leading to precise and timely interventions.

Surveys have shown that 47.5 percent of healthcare systems have already been using AI and from 2022 to 2029. That number is expected to increase by 40.2 percent, as people are coming around and becoming more accepting of its growth.

Doctors have been using it to pull up medical records and patient data, and are able to facilitate quicker response times, along with making it easier to get information about clinical research. AI continues to improve, which makes it easier and faster to find drug information and prescriptions.

In the next five years, AI is planned for use in clinical practices, and then more extensively towards the ten year mark. It is clear that AI will never replace human clinicians, but rather assist with their care for patients, along with potentially saving billions in healthcare spending.

The challenge many are facing, however, is privacy and security. Medical files contain private and sensitive information about patients, and finding a way to keep that secure is difficult. They are developing regulations and standards to ensure that information will remain protected.

Many people believe that AI is going to take over and the lack of understanding what its main goal is, is what will cause this to fail. This technology is not aimed to take jobs of healthcare workers, but aimed to improve care for all patients.
