Land’s End trail in San Francisco is the perfect coastal hike for beginner hikers. This trail is 100% free and is along the Pacific coast. Seals, dolphins, and other marine life can often be seen from the trail. The trail leads to a beautiful rocky beach. The trail is known for its rock labyrinth at the end of the trail. The labyrinth was built by Dan Gentile in 2022 and is considered an unofficial landmark of San Francisco by locals.

Mount Diablo State Park (Walnut Creek)

Mount Diablo State Park is located in Walnut Creek and nbvhas many trail entrances starting from the bottom of the mountain, all the way up to the top. There is a $10 entrance fee per vehicle and payment should be brought in cash. A notable feature of the trail is the “wind caves” towards the top of the mountain. The wind caves are cliff sides that have been eroded by wind to the point that there are now caves and crevices. The wind caves are accessible through the trail, “Rock City Trail”.

Muir Woods

Muir Woods National Monument is located in Marin county and is a beautiful forest containing many trails. Some of the trees are over 1,000 years old. Muir woods has many good trails for beginners, as many of the trails are boarded with wood. However, they do offer more advanced trails with steep climbs. Muir woods does require a $15 entrance fee for people age 16 or older. The national park is free for those age 15 or younger.
