As 2023 comes to a close, this year was a great year for music. Thousands of great artists released new music and out of all (most) of the new music made this year, here are my top 5 songs of 2023 I could not stop replaying over and over again.
- “Agora Hills” by Doja Cat
“Agora Hills” is the tenth track on Doja Cat’s 2023 album Scarlet, released on September 22, 2023. The main genre is hip hop/rap. This song is about the relationship between her and her partner that is so strong that she wants to show him off and brag about him. She loves her partner so dearly and loves everything about them that she wants to be in their presence as much as she can. This song became one of the most popular songs off the album, respectfully so. Definitely give this song a listen
- “My Eyes” by Travis Scott
“MY EYES” is the fourth song off of Travis Scott’s 2023 album UTOPIA, released July 28, 2023. The main genre is hip hop/rap. This song starts off with a slow mellow beat and rhythm. Towards the middle of the song, it transitions into a more ethereal, hip hop beat with a fast rap flow. In the beginning of this song, it talks about the lack of love he feels even though he is always being surrounded by materialistic things that he thinks would make others happy. He then talks about personal life struggles, even mentioning the 2021 astroworld tragedy. With a captivating melody and beat, this song is one to be put on your playlist.
- “Sorry Not Sorry” by Tyler, The Creator
“SORRY NOT SORRY” is the 24th song off of Tyler, The Creator’s 2023 deluxe album Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale. The main genre is hip hop/rap. This song is about Tyler being sorry for all the wrong doings he did but also not being sorry for them due to the fact it has helped him grow as a person. It also talks about how he doesnt care about what others think about him and that he is his own person and that he has changed for the better. He also talks about the fact he knows what struggle is like as he used to be poor and used to live from paycheck to paycheck and how he used to be called arrogant. This song can hit home for a lot of people. This song is definitely one of his best
- “Capable Of Love” by Pinkpanthress
“Capable Of Love” is the 12th song off of Pinkpanthress’s 2023 debut studio album Heaven Knows. The main genre of this song is pop/alternative. This track is about her yearning for the love of her life and how she wants to be with him before she forgets how to be, essentially, capable of love. She is always dreaming and hoping for the day that she gets to be with him. Because of the ethereal, bass and drum melody combined with her signature airy, light voice, this song has to be one of the best songs she has released.
- “on the street” by J-Hope (of BTS) ft J. Cole
“On The Street” was released as a single collaboration with the rapper J.Cole. The main genre of this song is a mix of pop and rap. The whole song reminds me of a Mac Miller type song. The song is about J-Hope reminiscing on his career and how he started out, which was ironically “on the street”, as he used to be a street dancer. Some of his lyrics also resemble that most of what he does in his career are for the fans. J-Hope’s verse is about how his destiny has always been predestined and it was the only way his life was going to go when the time comes where he has to walk away from it. From the cheerful melody down to the lyrics, this song is for sure to make you feel good.
