Coronavirus Comeback in California

By Sophia Gerl

People wearing masks all around, canceled vacations, COVID tests, etc. The coronavirus has made a comeback in the state of California.

Frequently, you see people on the streets that protect themselves from the virus with common security measures. There are also a lot of advertisements urging people to get vaccinated.

Since the beginning of the summer, the number of Coronavirus cases in Los Angeles has doubled. However, this actually sounds worse than it is, as there are only half as many cases as in the previous winter.

In total, around 94 million people have already been vaccinated with the coronavirus vaccine. However, only 4 million of them are up to date, which is around 10% of the entire population of california.

If you take a closer look at the statistics, you can see that the number of positive Corona cases tested last year rose in the months from August to February and then dropped steadily.

In January of this year, the state recorded the highest number of deaths due to this virus. Just as new hospital admissions occur most commonly in the winter months,

In comparison, data on other influenza viruses show a similar curve this year, but with significantly fewer cases.

Based on this data, you can see that an increase in Covid cases is to be expected in these months in particular and that you should therefore protect yourself very well.
