Top 5 Conspiracy Theories

By Nick Adams

Conspiracy Theories have become ingrained in popular culture. Conspiracy Theories are explanations for situations or events that occur, which commonly blame something sinister and secret. Conspiracies have been spread around the world for hundreds of years, sort of like legends and myths, but within the past 100 years with the escalation of media and news these theories have become more widespread and profound. There are hundreds of well known conspiracy theories that have been developed over the years. In this Article we will be going over the top five greatest conspiracy theories. To rank these theories we will use a scale. Conspiracy theories that are super interesting, wild or outlandish, or almost certainly truthful may make the list.

  1. The CIA Wacked JFK… JFK was assassinated in 1963. Along with the Vietnam War, missile crisis, civil rights movement, and space race this was a crucial moment in the 1960s.The consensus on JFK’s assassination is that he was murdered by a lone shooter, Lee Harvey Oswald. However, over the years more and more experts and theorists have begun turning away from the general consensus of the lone gunman theory. Theories range from the Mafia to the Russians to the CIA as the real culprits, the most popular theory blaming the CIA. Oswald denied being the killer and many pieces of evidence point towards there being more than one shooter. But with Oswald being assassinated two days after the president’s death, it is hard to know for sure what actually happened. The CIA conspiracy believes as follows; The CIA assassinated JFK because of the failed Bay Of Pigs Invasion and his hesitancy to become involved in the Vietnam War and the fight against communism. The theory believes that Lee Harvey Oswald was most likely involved in the shooting, but that there is a good chance there was also more than one shooter. As early as the late 1960s more than 50%of the US general population did not believe that Oswald acted alone. As of 2023 more than 60%of Americans believe some conspiracy occurred in the JFK assassination and following cover up. The JFK conspiracy theory tops the list at number one because of how well known and widespread  it is.
  2. Finland Isn’t Real… The Finland ‘isn’t real’ conspiracy theory spread online in the early 2010s. The theory has become a meme in itself but many still joke about the conspiracy ringing true. The theorists claim that the European nation of Finland has never really existed. Instead, where Finland would appear on a map is simply just ocean controlled by governments for fishing. Some claim that Finland was created as a hoax in order to give Russia and Japan control over fishing territory in the Baltic Sea.
  3. Moon Landing Staged…… This theory states that the American moon landing of 1969 was staged in order to further the United States in the space race and also the race against communism. These Conspiracy theories about the staged moon landing have been coming out since the early 1970s. Many of these individuals have attempted to debunk the moon landing by calling out shadows and other things that don’t look authentic to them in the released footage. Statistics show that between 6% and 20% of Americans believe that the initial manned crew landings on the moon were faked. Along with this 25% and 28% of Russians and British. A widespread branch of this theory claims that movie director Stanley Kubrick had something to do with the staged moon landings. Theorists point to Kubrick’s style of directing at the time, and the equipment and props that he had in his movies as evidence of him tampering with the moon landing. The moon landing theory even goes so far to state that the moon landings were staged by Disney and filmed by Stanley Kubrick.
  1. Mark Zuckerberg is an Alien… The most believable theory on the list claims that Tech billionaire and creator of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg is not human. Some believe he is an Alien while others believe he is a lizard. Though it is mostly a joke of a Conspiracy Theory there is some believable evidence. Zuckerberg’s mannerisms point to that of a lizard person. Many claim that he is part of the elite Lizard government and uses Facebook as a way to surveil the general public. A video gone viral shows Zuckerberg hiding a logo embroidered into the inside of his jacket. This logo has been claimed to be a cult logo that Zuckerberg is a part of.
  2. BigFoot Is Real… Probably one of the most well known conspiracy theories and legends claims the existence of a hairy beast called Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Originally popularized in the mid 1900s from a video claiming evidence of the beast, Bigfoot has become ingrained in popular culture and legend. Early records of Sasquatch going all the way back thousands of years ago show how common sightings of ‘bigfoot’  are. Formal searches and studies of the monster have been conducted by scientists, national agencies, and claimed experts. Animal Planet shows and Movies have been created because of this legend and more than 75,000 people have logged reports with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization.
