Who Really Built the Pyramids of Giza?

By: Morgan Kacalek

The Great Pyramids of Giza are among some of the most complex architectural mysteries in the world. Considering that the largest is 455 feet tall and 756 feet wide, and each block weighing several tons, many have started to conspire that these structures could not have possibly been built by humans considering the technology used at the time.

The most widely referenced theory is probably the one that claims the pyramids were built by aliens. This has become a widespread joke over the years, but should we really be joking about it? While not necessarily citing the existence of aliens, the theory definitely becomes food for thought when you consider the evidence.

According to mainstream archaeologists, the ancient Egyptians are accepted to have begun construction on the Pyramid of Giza between 2550 to 2490 B.C, and they are said to have taken about 20 years to complete. However, there’s one thing about this claim that doesn’t make sense. Considering that the Great Pyramid of Giza contains 2.3 million individual blocks, to complete the pyramid in just 20 years, one block would have had to be laid every five minutes of every hour of every day. So unless you can say that it would have been possible for humans to construct and move these 5,000 pound limestone bricks into place once every 5 minutes for 20 years straight, then you might consider exploring some of the so-called “conspiracy theories” surrounding the construction of the pyramids.

The theory supported by most mainstream archaeologists is that the Egyptians built ramps to give them a mechanical advantage to haul the stones up the side of the structure. The only problem with this theory is that because of the weight of the blocks, some close to 10 tons, the degree of the ramp would have had to be 10 degrees or less for it to be possible to move the stones. Considering that the biggest pyramid measures almost 455 feet in height, the ramp at 10 degrees would have been more than twice the width of the pyramid. The ramp alone would have been even more massive than the pyramid itself and would have been made out of the same material as the pyramids since sand or wood is too weak to support the weight of the behemoth, limestone bricks. The ramp would also still be standing today and considered even more of an architectural wonder than the pyramids themselves. Furthermore, a single block still would have had to be hauled up the ramp, again, once every 5 minutes for 24 hours a day, for 20 years straight.

So without a ramp, and assuming you don’t believe in aliens, how would the construction of these pyramids have been possible? British writer, Graham Hancock, is known for his theory of a global cataclysmic event, such as a flood, that took place around 12,000 years ago and suggests that before the event, humans were far more technologically advanced than we are now. Following this theory, that could mean that the pyramids were in fact created by humans that were extremely advanced and had access to technology that we just haven’t discovered yet. Some historians even report records of chanting while construction took place which has led some to believe that the technology used by the Egyptians had something to do with frequency of sound manipulating matter.

While there are many theories surrounding the construction of the pyramids of Giza, these are just a few of what I believe are the most plausible. No matter what you believe, I think we can all agree that the construction of the pyramids by humans with technology we have today is highly unlikely, and it’s time we start asking questions about what really happened and was it really the ancient Egyptians that built the pyramids?
