49ers survive against the Packers in the Divisional Round

By: Jacob Bugarin

Last Saturday was the divisional round of the playoffs and the 49ers played the 7th seed Green Bay Packers. In the rainy conditions, everyone on the field was slipping, dropping passes, missed throws, and many more. The 49ers were losing in the 4th quarter where they were down 21-17 after a missed field goal by Packers kicker Daniel Carlson. Purdy led his team down the field and Christian McCaffery scored the touchdown to take the lead. Then with the game on the line, Jordan Love had to drive the Packers down field where he threw an interception to Dre Greenlaw where the 49ers won 24-21. Here are some takeaways from the game.

Green Bay Packers; The future is bright

I’ll give huge props to the Packers, coming in with a quarterback who hasn’t had much experience in the league really improved throughout the season. Beating the Cowboys who were the 2nd seed and competing against the top NFC team is something they shouldn’t be sad about. Especially since they have a quarterback after getting rid of Aaron Rodgers who is a hall of fame quarterback. Even so with Jordan Love improving, this team is still young and will face some obstacles that will only get them better. With drop picks that could’ve changed the game or if Jordan Love didn’t throw the pick, they still lost. Still the future is bright for the Green Bay fans, they do not need to worry about a quarterback now.

49ers: Finish the job

That bye week and the rain definitely affected the 49ers who were really bad in the rain which was shown when they played the Cleveland Browns. They were dropped picks too which could have changed the whole game and may have resulted in losing. But when the 49ers needed to get the job down, they clutched in the 4th quarter and pulled out a win after being 0-30 being down in a game. Now, they face the Detroit Lions in the NFC championship which is the 49ers 4th team being there in the Shanahan era. Also this will  be the first matchup of the number one pick of the 2016 draft, Jared Goff facing off the last pick of the 2022 draft, Brock Purdy. Two physical teams will face off at 3:30 (PT) to have a shot to go to the Super Bowl.
