Though there are many soccer fans, that doesn’t mean soccer is a flawless sport. In fact, these flaws cause people to not like soccer as much as the next person. But, the source of the biggest problem actually lies in the players, not the fans. Though, the source also could be the refs. But, most of the time, it’s the players.
The main problem with soccer is the amount of times players flop, or be very dramatic when experiencing a foul, to get the other team punished. But, these flops can go very south, resulting in a serious injury. For example, Anton Tinnerhom, a Swedish Soccer player, injures his leg after flopping. Causing him to be taken out of the game.
An even more embarrassing flop was executed by Ciro Immobile. During a World Cup game, he supposedly gets hit in the leg and knocked down. He is rolling around screaming in agonizing pain. He has everybody fooled until his team scores a goal. He immediately pops right back up like nothing happened. He didn’t even try to be sneaky about it, he got up and started sprinting. There have been multiple people online creating memes about him and making fun of him.
The last big flop was done by Christiano Rinaldo, a very famous and skilled soccer player. As he is trying to score a goal with his heel, he seems to lose balance and fall down. But, after he claims he was pushed instead of admitting he made a mistake. This can anger some people because lies like this can make this sport not an honest sport.
These are three main examples of why soccer might be called a flop fest. More times than not, during a soccer game, you will encounter a flop. It may be a little flop, or a major flop. You never know. But every flop still drives people away from soccer.
