Surprise!
Disney has announced the upcoming Moana 2 movie. It is set to be released on November 27, 2024, and many fans of the hit movie are buzzing with excitement.
This announcement comes after a long stretch of Disney and Pixar studios announced sequels to many of their hit movies, such as Zootopia 2, Frozen 3, and Inside Out 2. Disney has released a short synopsis on the film along with a teaser trailer.
“After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
While many fans are excited for this new installment, some are calling out the lack of communication between Disney and fans as there was originally a Moana TV show set to be made, only for it to be switched with a movie 9 months before its release. One Twitter (X) user said,
“Bob Iger, maybe it’s just me but uh… announcing the Moana show was reworked into a Moana 2 only NINE MONTHS before release after basically radio silence on the whole thing for years is not the marketing gold you think it is.”
Other information about the development of the new movie states that songwriter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, will not be returning to write songs for the new movie. Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, as well as Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina set to be in charge of the music. Bob Iger made a statement about his excitement for the movie.
“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise,” Iger said in a statement. “We can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when ‘Moana 2’ comes to theaters this November.”
