Before I tell you about some brands who use animal testing and offer alternative, animal-friendly brands, let us discuss what animal testing is and its harmful nature. An animal test is an experiment or test in which a live animal is forced to undergo a treatment of a product, which may cause pain or serious harm. Some animals are injected with botox to see its effect because the ultimate goal is to check if the product will be safe for humans to use. These laboratories that perform animal testing lock these animals in cages where they are left alone for long periods of time. Simply, these laboratories are cruel places.
Big corporations, like L’Oreal, Johnson and Johnson, and Clorox, along with 44 out of 50 large companies, all use animal testing. These companies are making no real efforts to change their policies. With this in mind, many consumers are beginning to yearn for alternatives in an effort to stop supporting corporations that support the cruel treatment of animals.
If you’re using brands like Old Spice or Pantene for shampoo or deodorant, a better option may be Lush cosmetics. Lush Cosmetics use all natural, fresh, and only vegetarian ingredients. Compared to larger corporations, Lush Cosmetics also helps your wallet, providing a cheaper alternative. Lush Cosmetics is also known for working on various skin types, unlike Dove products.
Johnson and Johnson baby products experience controversy because their ingredients have been found to cause cancer. Johnson and Johnson has experienced 38,000 lawsuits because of their ingredients. An alternative is Burt’s Bees baby products, which are 100 percent natural, full of antioxidants and vitamins, and are safe for your babies.
Many makeup brands also test on animals. Companies like Covergirl and Mac are known for their cruel treatment on animals. Better options that don’t test on animals are ELF and Too Faced—companies that have been truly cruelty free from the start.
Many companies also say that they don’t while in reality they do.
