Future of BHS Volleyball Interviews

By Beau Cline

The 2024 Boys Volleyball season just kicked off, and they’ve already  got their eyes on the league banner. As I interviewed this year’s team, I was met with a mixture of excitement and nervousness however their passion for the game is what truly stood out to me. They might not be the biggest, or most flashy team this year, but I’m sure their passion, and dedication to the game will take them far.

We’ll start the interviews off with one of our newest varsity members Carlos Solla. Let’s start off with how you got into volleyball? “I got into volleyball because it looked fun and I wanted to get into another sport that I could play during my offseason of wrestling.” He’s one of our 3 starting Freshman on the team this year. How do you contribute to the overall team dynamic as a freshman player? “On the court I help give my teammates easier balls to receive while I’m on the block, off the court I try to record the games so I can study film with the team. Describe for us your typical training routine during volleyball season. “I go to the gym before practice for weights, then go to practice where we generally do cardio, then start our drills.” Finally what advice would you give young players starting their high school journey? “ I would suggest staying consistent with your practice, try to play club volleyball as that’s the most consistent you’ll get, otherwise try to go to open gyms, and watch film so you can learn from your mistakes. Most importantly, start hitting the gym as it’s good for your physical and mental health.” Thank you Carlos for the interview and good luck on the season!

Our next interviewee will be Remy Berg, another first year varsity athlete. Let’s start with how you got into volleyball? “I used to play basketball when I was younger, but got tired of it. I was looking for a new sport to play and my friend recommended trying out volleyball, so I tried out freshman year and made JV.” Remy’s one of our tallest players standing at 6’2 playing middle blocker. What have been some of the more challenging moments as a middle? “ Trying to close every block in a long game takes a lot of energy.” Are you considering volleyball in your future if so where and how? “I definitely would love to play in college but we all know how hard that is so I would be fine playing d3 or d2, however my dream would be to play at UC Santa Cruz.” Lets end this interview off with your most significant achievement in volleyball. “ I would have to say the time my club went 5-0 at a tournament.” That must’ve been tough, Thank you for your time and good luck on the rest of the season Remy!

I want to say thank you to the volleyball team for these interviews and I’m excited to see where the future of this program goes. As of right now it’s looking very bright with these young players leading the charge.
