By Kai McMillian

Beabadoobee (real name being Beatrice Kristi Ilejay Laus) is a Filipina-English singer who was born in Iloilo City in the Philippines on June 3rd, 2000. At age three, she and her family moved to London. As a teenager, her role models were the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alex G, Florist, and Karen O which is heavily reflected in her music now. Her first song is Coffee was released on November 4, 2017 and if you were on the internet around this time, there is no doubt that you have heard this song somewhere. Due to this song, she gained the attention of the record label “Dirty Hit Records”. Come April 28, 2018, she released her first debut EP “Lice”. With her rising fame, she supported the artist Clario on her “Immunity tour” in September 2019. A month prior in October, she made the cover of NME (New Musical Express). Fast forward to July 15, 2022, Beabadoobee released her second studio album “Beatopia”. On this album, she has a good amount of well known featured artists such as PinkPantheress, Matty Healy and George Daniel of the 1975, Cavetown, and Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club.

Cologne is the second track off of her fifth EP “Our Extended Play” released on June 23, 2021. This song talks heavily about the desire to have a close intimate relationship with someone and the insecurity and frustration that comes with this desire. Bea expresses that she feels less attractive when it comes to the intimate aspects of her relationship and as if she’s inadequate and not good enough for her partner. Although she is very stressed and her relationship is very draining, she’s still pushing to go forward with it even though it hurts for both people. Some lyrics include “ Am I attractive? Tell me, am I good enough?”, “You’re in my head, You’re in my head”, and “Baby, I’ve been home alone, Won’t you just drop your shift, And pick up the phone?”.

With this song’s catchy melody, nostalgic pop rock instrumental, and Beabadoobe’s signature soft, light and high tone voice, this song is nothing but perfect in all honesty.e We can’t expect anything but the best from Beabadoobee. With her many timeless songs that hold so many memories, this song is one to be put on repeat.
