As high school students we are on the verge of entering a new chapter in our lives and part of this chapter involves moving. As we grow up, go away to college, and enter the workforce there is a good chance we will be moving out of the towns we grew up in. Knowing the good and bad of the places we are headed is something that can be very valuable when considering important life decisions. We consider whether or not somewhere is a good place to live based on the environment, crime rates, quality of education, quality and availability of health care, along with average commute time. When choosing a college one major factor considered is the location and the environment of the town a school is in. According to the U.S. News and World Report, these are some of the cities with the highest quality of living. Many of these are home to popular universities that many of us may be considering.
Ranked as the best city to live in is Ann Arbor Michigan. This city is west of Detroit and is home to the University of Michigan. Its proximity to this university contributes to a lively cultural and educational spirit. Ann Arbor duality shines through with the feeling of both rural and urban environments along with outdoors and tech focuses contributed by the University of Michigan. According to the U.S. News and World Report, Ann Arbor is home to a strong job market in addition to the cost of living and property values are above the national average.
Second on the list is Boulder Colorado. Right at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Boulder has a lively outdoor scene with its beautiful natural environment. Along with the natural beauty of Boulder, this city is very health conscious with a plethora of wellness opportunities from free forest mediation sessions and high end spas to numerous medical marijuana dispensaries. Boulder is also home to the University of Colorado Boulder which adds an additional young and lively feel to this city.
Finally we have Madison Wisconsin. This city is known for its beautiful natural surroundings, diverse population and its spirited downtown area. Many of these qualities are attributed by the University of Wisconsin Madison which is in the center of downtown Madison. Similar to Boulder, Madison is home to a plethora of outdoor activities. Madison has all the positive qualities of a big city while also maintaining the feel of a small town.
While these aren’t the only good places to live, the three cities listed ranked as the top three cities to live in as of 2023. All of these cities are home to universities us as seniors may be considering. It’s important to look into the surrounding area and towns when considering where we want to begin this new chapter of our lives. Looking into the quality of living, crime rates, healthcare availability, and much more are just a few things to consider about a city before committing.
