Protest Closes Golden Gate, I-880 & Bay Bridge

On the morning of April 16, around 7 a.m., according to KRON4, 60 Pro-Palestinian protesters shut down the Golden Gate Bridge. They parked their cars to block people from entering. They blocked the bridge highway, Transportation District, and sidewalks. A similar protest also happened that shut down I-880, northbound 880 near 980 in West Oakland that involved 100 people. California Highway Patrol stated that they arrested 38 protesters; according to NBC Bay Area, the people who were arrested are being charged with vehicle code violations and false imprisonment. Many people were stuck in traffic because of this protest, which intervened with people’s lives and where they were going.

Personally, I think they should protest in a different way because many people have jobs, interviews, emergencies, and personal events and missing their deadline to arrive might cost them. But I get where they are coming from for their protest. They want people to be reminded of what is happening and want to make an impact by being in the news instead of people moving on to the next thing. I think if they are choosing to protest somewhere, I think it’s better to protest on the side and places that you know that other people had protested on that are safe. For example, sidewalks, etc. Another way they could protest is by the internet because they could encourage people to support whatever they are protesting and give awareness.
