What’s Going On With Jojo Siwa?

By Jazmyne Hartman

If you’ve been on the internet recently it’s very unlikely that you’ve avoided Jojo Siwa’s recent rebranding. The infamous Jojo Siwa began her internet career on dance moms in 2015 when she was known for her bubbly personality, high ponytails, and giant bows. Over the course of her fame Jojo released numerous flashy and kid directed songs. Jojo has always been a model whose content has been solely directed towards children. As of recently though, Jojo has taken steps to “rebrand” her image.

Jojo’s rebrand has been subject to large amounts of criticism, especially with the release of her new song “Karma” along with her abrupt “style switch”. While Jojo’s new obsession with being a “bad girl” may seem like it’s coming out of left field, when we take a closer look at her history on social media, this sudden rebrand isn’t as random as we think.

Taking a look at past child stars and their path into adulthood, there is an undeniable pattern of rebelling from childlike qualities that made them famous. Most of the time this change is a result of drug abuse, trauma within their industry, or other mental health issues. Jojo on the other hand doesn’t seem to fit into these categories, so why is she trying so hard to change her image into this ”bad girl” category?

The internet has many theories on what has spurred her so-called “bad girl era”. Is Jojo being initiated into the illuminati and this is her humiliation ritual? Has she really just lost it? Or is this just some crazy PR stunt to gain more media attention? In reality Jojo is most likely not being initiated into the illuminati and while she may seem crazy I don’t think she’s “lost it”. Jojo’s new persona is widely similar to how she used to act, only sub is black clothes for pink bows.

Jojo’s whole life has been spent as a girly-girl whose content is based for children, as Jojo reaches adulthood it makes sense that she most likely wants to be seen as something other than a child. Jojo’s wild attempts to be seen in a different light, although hard to watch, makes sense considering her history in the media. This mixed with what we can only assume is a wild PR stunt explains the new persona adopted by Jojo.
