What to Expect at Grad Night

By Staff

As the end of the school year rapidly approaches, seniors are looking forward to, not just graduation, but the after party, Grad Night! Grad Night is an exciting event that is held every year as an opportunity for seniors to hang out with their classmates one last time before saying “goodbye” as everyone goes their separate ways.

Grad Night organizer Nikki Tillotson describes the event as, “the last night in the school community, where students get to reminisce and play on campus like rambunctious kids before saying goodbye to childhood.” She says, “It’s a way to cap the bottle, so to speak, and I hope – and have witnessed – many grads find reconnection with old friends and new perspectives about their experiences while there.” This event is intended to allow seniors to experience the thrill of playing as a child one last time with their childhood friends, before beginning their adult lives. Every year, the event has a specific surprise theme and features food, games, and activities that fit that theme. Tillotson says, “There is something for everyone there… food, games, a casino, laser tag,” and so much more! This event is organized by a plethora of generous parent volunteers and community members who hope to provide a special experience for BHS seniors.

Nikki Tillotson explains, “I have been a member of grad night for many years, although my own children have moved on in their lives. It’s been a fabulous way to connect with other parents, get creative, and support student safety on the most dangerous night of the year for teens.” She also says, “The best part for any volunteer is watching students gleefully run amok one last time on their school campus before going out into their adult lives. Grad night is supposed to be a “pay it forward” event, and in recent years we have not had enough support.” Tillotson, along with several other volunteers work hard every year to put on this special event for our seniors!

This year, the event will take place on June 8th, and doors will open at 8:00pm. Students will not be dismissed until 1:00am, being guaranteed a full five hours of fun with their friends and community before leaving and beginning to pursue their own careers and interests outside of high school!
