Why the 49ers can go back to the Super Bowl

By Jacob Bugarin

After this year’s draft, many 49ers fans wonder how they can go back to the Bowl and win for the sixth time in history. Many have argued that the Super Bowl window has closed for the 49ers and that the Super Bowl they were just in was the last one they will ever be in. I think that is not the case and the 2024-2025 49ers are going to be way better than they are than they were last year. With new additions to the coaching staff and the roster, I believe that this 49ers team will be a team that should be more talked about this year.

The Receiving core is loaded with talent

In last year’s Super Bowl, the one thing that lacked with the 49ers was being able to create separation from man on man coverage. Only person who could do that was Brandon Aiyuk, but didn’t get targeted as much and Deebo Samuel was targeted 11 times and only had 3 catches for 33 yards. While Jauan Jenngings does bring physicality, Deebo and Jauan can only separate by being physical. With no other route runners, the 49ers drafted Ricky Perseall and Jacob Cowing to solve that problem. With new people who are able to get open on man on man coverage, this receiving core could be one of the top receiving corps.

49ers Secondary gets upgraded

With Charvarius Ward, Deommodore Lenoir and Jiyar Brown returning as starters, 49ers signed more depth in Rock Ya-Sin Issac Yiadom, and Chase Lucas. Also drafting rookie corner Ronardo Green who is a man on man specialist. This will allow the 49ers to play more man coverage, but also have more depth in the position if someone gets hurt. Also49ers drafted more safety depth, re-signing Geroge Odum and drafting rookie Malik Mustapha who is tearing up rookie minicamp right now. Last year in the playoffs, there were a lot of missed tackles or bad angles taken from former 49ers safety Tashaun Gipson. The 49ers will have more versatility in the secondary and should lead the league in interceptions.

Special Teams gets more people

The 49ers special teams last year wasn’t the best at all when it came to tackling returners on kickoff and returns. Also with kick and punt returner Ray Ray Mcloud gone, the 49ers will have to depend on rookie Jacob Cowing or Ricky Pearsall to be returners this year. Also the cornerback signing will also have a huge part on special teams. With last year’s special teams not being able to make an impact, this year they have the depth to be able to do that. Hopefully the 49ers punt returner can return one to the end zone since 2011 when Ted Ginn Jr was the last person to do that.

Final Thoughts

If anything the 49ers had a pretty good off season, but the media has been saying that we didn’t get any better. The 49ers added depth to many positions, but also reinforced their offensive line with draft picks and free agent signing. The only concern is who is going to replace linebacker Dre Greenlaw who is coming off an achilleas injury, though Greenlaw is a good linebacker, he might not be the same linebacker. But with the 49ers coaching staff, I don’t think that’s going to be a problem and probably going to make a linebacker a good starter for the 49ers. Otherwise, the 49ers added depth to each position and each signing or draft are either a good backup or future starters. With many returning players coming back, this time is looking for the quest for six.
