Trump Doesn’t Rule Out Political Violence If He Loses

During Donald Trump’s Time interview on April 12, he would not dismiss the potential for political violence from his supporters if he isn’t re-elected in November. He leaves citizens to think that the peacefulness of the country would all depend on his outcome of the presidential race. This does not seem to put him in a good light to many of his supporters, not to mention those who already oppose him; Republicans fear it  could even cause him to lose supporters approaching November.

The former president faced widespread criticism after his 2020 defeat when he initially refused to call for January 6 protesters to leave the U.S Capitol grounds. This further resulted in a skirmish, resulting in the death of five people, and injuring countless others, including an estimated 140 police officers.

“I think we’re gonna have a big victory. And I think there will be no violence,” Trump stated during his interview with TIME magazine.

Trump continued his interview, pushing false 2020 election conspiracies, which he insists incited the violent January 6 mob. This attempt to exempt his actions has been criticized and scrutinized over the last several years, though it looks like it has broadly worked considering all of his supporters he has under his belt.

Throughout Trump’s political career, he has consistently refused to accept the results of an election or admit a conceding defeat. In 2016, Trump famously accused Texas Senator Ted Cruz of fraud following his loss in the Iowa caucuses. The fact that people are noticing this is very bad for Trump’s career and hopes of being re-elected. During his race against Hillary Clinton, he continuously called the election “rigged,” even though he eventually won.

There are a lot of accusations made against Trump by voters and news stations, varying in believability. So far, Trump has proven many of them right, which will likely end up hurting him in November. All he seems to do is make things worse for himself. Not accepting results, threatening violence, and calling races “rigged”, are all cons when it comes to looking at Donald Trump as a president of the United States. He has opportunities to correct these mistakes, but so far he is not doing a very good job of it. The world will be holding their breath when November comes around, for better or worse, and we will see if he gets re-elected.
