Monday-Friday
Mr. Martinez usually gets up around 6:30 am in order to ensure that he has enough time to prepare himself for the day. He makes breakfast and prepares his lunch for work at BHS as a Spanish teacher. After that, he’ll leave home around 7:40 or 7:50 to go to work. He normally arrives at work around 8:15 am so he can get things ready for classes, such as projecting the slides.
This year, he is teaching 6 classes instead of 5, so he’s busier than last year. “I try to get things done for the next day during working hours, but sometimes I spend extra time after work to get work done because there’s not enough time during my working hours to finish grading or lesson planning,” he said. He often actually gets home later, around 4:30 pm, grabs a quick snack and then tries to work out for about 2 hours. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he attends a swimming class from 5:40 to 7:30. Those days he stays at work until 5 since the class is at DVC near Benicia and he commutes to Fairfield which “gives the opportunity to catch up a little with work stuff.” He also stated that he enjoys having time to work out or exercise because it helps him with his mental health even if he’s feeling tired. After working out, he eats dinner, and recently he has started turning off his phone by 9:00 pm to start getting ready to sleep. Before going to bed, he’ll prepare his food for the next day, and finally gets to bed at around 10:30 pm.
Saturday & Sunday
On Saturday, he gets up around 7:30 am in order to get a bit more rest. Then he will have his breakfast and then go grocery shopping. After lunch, he works out and then relaxes by watching a movie in French. On Sunday, he again wakes up around 7:30 am. He eats breakfast and then meal preps. Sometimes he may go on a hike or go to see some friends during the afternoon if he is free. Other time’s he says that “I just stay home, and in the evening I may do some lesson planning to get ready for work.”
