Issues With Airlines

By Caden Gilbert

On August 27th, 2024, there was an accident with a Delta airplane’s tires. The tire exploded while it was being changed, which killed 2 employees and injured another. An accident like this can raise thoughts about the news involving airlines that has surfaced recently. Whether it’s a tire exploding while being changed or an engine failing, there have been many problems. This can lead to people wondering if they are really safe when they travel. If one looks up issues with airplanes in the news, there are countless articles involving different incidents. Why might this be happening? If there are lives that can potentially be in danger, shouldn’t there be more concern?

Ever since the wide-spread  IT outage, more and more issues have popped up. The most common one seems to be airplanes returning to the airport after one of their engines fails. There was even a case after a Boeing 737-900ER’s door opened twice during a flight. According to BBC News, there was a flight that had electrical issues, and they were kept hidden: “The Foundation for Aviation Safety claimed the aircraft, which went down in Ethiopia in 2019, had suffered a number of issues, including an “uncommanded roll” at low altitude.” This organization said that more than 1,000 planes could currently be at risk of having the same issues that were concealed on this plane.

The fact that issues involving airlines are happening more and more is very clear. However, what is unclear is if there is a specific reason as to why these issues are commonly happening. The safety of students and other travelers should be a priority and is something to be aware of, so this issue is one we all must be diligent about.
