Clubs at BHS are a great way to expand your horizons on new activities and expand your social life. Here at BHS, there are many amazing clubs offered for students after school, during lunch, and even sometimes activities during the weekend! These clubs are just a handful of the amazing opportunities students have at their disposal.
D&D Club
D&D club allows your imagination to run wild, explore new worlds and open your eyes to meeting new people. In the D&D club, (Dungeons and Dragons, a popular TTRPG/tabletop roleplay game) students will meet after school to make characters, meet new friends, use their imaginations to save the world and more! When asked about why D&D club is the club to consider, a member said: “People should join the D&D club to be creative and expand their imaginations. It’s an important skill and one you can use for the rest of your life.” If you enjoy board games and meeting new people, D&D club might just be for you.
Speech and Debate
Wanting a club to teach you valuable life skills like public speaking and making good argumentative statements? What about going around for tournaments? Speech and debate is an amazing way to enhance your skills and learn about the world around you at the same time. When asked about why joining the speech and debate club was a well-worthy investment, members had this to say about the club: “Join to become part of something! Learn about world issues and become a bigger part of your community. Plus, colleges love it!” Come educate yourself, learn new things, and make new relationships at speech and debate.
Adopt a Freshman
Helping your lower classmen can always feel upbringing. Even feeling like an older sibling for someone to look up to, and, in the process, helping those around you who need it! The Adopt a Freshman Club gives upperclassmen a chance to mentor and guide freshmen in their first year of high school, and freshman an opportunity to make new friends and get help along the way. When asked about their favorite parts of the club, members said: “I enjoy getting to know people, helping others adjust to high school life and there are fun activities after school as well!” Come adopt a freshman to help them ease into high school and make new friends along the way.
S club
S club is all about empowering the women around you in your life. Empowering those around you to show that they matter and are important. “You should join to help empower women and get volunteer hours,” answered a club member when asked about why you should join the club. S club is a great step at uplifting those around you! People deserve to be uplifted and shown that they matter, so come stop by the S club.
Unicef
Unicef is an international organized club dedicated to helping children in poverty, in need of healthcare, a home, or just help in general. Supporting children everywhere to help make sure they get the life they deserve. “You should join to become more aware of what goes on around you in the world, face challenges you can learn to overcome and make an impact. We also do fun events to help spread awareness,” club members replied when asked why people should consider joining. Come help children in need, become more aware of your surroundings and know what’s going on and how you can make a difference at Unicef.
SOS (Sources of Strength)
Sources of Strength, or SOS, is a club run by the school to help spread awareness about suicide prevention and help those in need. When asked about their favorite parts of the club, members noted: “I enjoy meeting during Access along with getting to help those around me.” SOS is the perfect club for you if you enjoy helping people and need a new place to call home in your very own support group.
Artist Club
Enjoy drawing, sculpting, painting or other forms of art? Then check out the Artist Club! The Artist Club is a club open for artists of all skill levels, not just advanced or beginners! Come meet new friends with similar interests and maybe learn a new art skill along the way! “My favorite part about the club is being able to meet new people and seeing them do what they love and enjoy the most,” commented members of the club. Meetings happen the 2nd and 3rd Wednesday of each month, and sometimes meet on weekends to go to places like art museums!
With so many choices to pick from and so many amazing new skills to try out, what club will you be joining this year? Consider joining an extracurricular club and meet new people, learn something new, and appreciate those around you.
