We scroll on our phones endlessly for hours sometimes and never think of anything else entertaining anymore. We spend so much time on our phones we almost forget reading exists. But it does still exist and it can help us learn so many new things. Some might think reading is boring, but I choose to believe that’s just because they haven’t found the right book yet. Reading can take us to different worlds and let us escape reality. There is so much information in books and articles that can be much more useful than scrolling through social media. There are also entertaining books we can decide to read instead of watching movies and shows.
Reading can expand our minds by changing our perspectives on things. Maybe after reading a book that changed our perspective on something, we can be more empathetic toward others in our daily lives. Reading can also help with focus and concentration because you have to pay attention to what you’re reading. You’ll have a longer attention span and won’t have to watch TikTok at 2x speed anymore.
When people think of reading, they probably think of school textbooks and boring articles. But I think of books so good you don’t want to put them down. When I was young I used to hate reading because all I had ever read was books for school that I thought were boring. But, when I found books I actually enjoyed reading, my mom would have to take away my books because I would read so much and never do my chores or homework. The books I read were so good in my opinion that even when I got a phone and social media I would still rather read more of my book than watch TikTok. It felt like an escape from reality when I was reading. I could see a little movie in my head everytime I read, so why watch a movie?
Last, reading can really help with vocabulary, storytelling and writing skills. There are so many benefits to reading and if you find a book you enjoy you might actually like it. In a world full of TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, picking up a book can be really refreshing.
