Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a sequel to Beetlejuice that came out on September 6, 2024 and so far has been a success. After 36 years, the long-anticipated Tim Burton sequel film has had the third best premiere weekend of the year, following behind Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie comes back with some of the original cast, such as Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara, along with some new additions to the cast: Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Belluci.
Among the movie’s opening and second weekend, it topped the domestic box office with $111 million in ticket sales, and will take the top spot in the box office with around $51.6 million in ticket sales in more than 4,000 theaters. Worldwide, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has $264.3 million in ticket sales.
Although there is success with the movie now, when the announcement and teaser trailer of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came out in February, there were many mixed reactions with fans of the franchise. Many fans were worried that the sequel would not do the original movie justice and that the effects would not have the same ‘vibe’ as it did in the first movie.
“Some of the visuals looked cheap, but [I’m] sure it will look better when it comes out,” said Jordan Reuimy, a fan who was at a test reaction for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice back in March, “It’s not horrendous, but far from good.”
However, when the movie released, previous reactions from fans took a whole 180. Many fans started to praise the movie for it keeping the old CGI and practical effects as it did in the first movie, keeping the same ‘vibe’ and feel. A fan of the movie, Colton Silva (11), watched the movie as well and was entertained by the movie’s usage of CGI and practical effects.
“I’m really glad that they kept the same style from the original and honored both the stop motion and then the CGI aspect. They didn’t go as heavy with the CGI and made it more practical and I truly respect that they kept what was authentic with the original,” said Silva.
