Reported on Monday, Ex-fire chiefs for the New York Fire Department were accused of accepting over $190,000 in bribes. Anthony Saccavino and Brian Cordasco, once the top 2 ranking chiefs in FDNY, are currently being accused of federal crimes. This “secret partnership” between them and businesses spiraled out of control as bribes began to file in.

News released on Monday about the 2 ex-chiefs having scandals in bribery along with accepting the bribery. Saccavino and Cordasco had their own delivery boy to help move stuff along. Henry Santiago Jr. would personally hand checks and cash to the ex-chiefs during dinners and other events, as was stated by court papers. However, this isn’t the first or even remotely close to the beginning of all this mischief. These scandals are thought to have begun happening roughly 2 years ago. Along with going on for over 2 years, these unwanted crimes took place with over 30 different projects across New York City. Some of these quick drive-by inspections, a part of these 30 projects included fire safety checks in apartments, bars, hotels and even restaurants according to court filings.

This news was shocking to many, but once the word was out, officers and the FBI were quick to be on their tail and raided the two ex-chiefs’ homes. U.S. Attorney Damion Williiams said during a press conference following the release of the news, “They allegedly created a VIP lane for faster services that could only be accessed with bribes. That’s classic pay-to-play corruption and it will not be tolerated in this office.”

Having to face the consequences of their actions, the two ex chiefs have been placed under arrest while the investigation continues.
