When Pumpkin Season Takes Over: A Guide to Local Festivities

By Staff

Every year Halloween sneaks up on you and comes way too fast! Don’t let that scare you, just make sure to check out these fall festivities before it’s too late.

  1. Everyone knows about Fright Fest, or at least have heard of it, and I think it’s absolutely perfect. It’s a great place for all ages, whether you visit on a weekend morning with the whole family to ride rides and check out decorations, or go at night when it’s dark and spooky with a big group of friends. If you are a scaredy cat like me and don’t want to go into the haunted houses, that’s totally fine, since the characters walk around on the paths. Make sure to bring a friend who can’t run as fast as you when running away from the zombies.
  1. G&M Farms is a corn maze in Livermore, the biggest in the area. It goes across 6 acres and has corn that is 12 ft tall. On weekends, they have a huge pumpkin patch, as well as hayrides and jump pillows. The season will open on October 2, 2024, and will close on October 31, 2024. Make sure to not fill your calendar, because this is something you won’t want to miss.
  1. NightMARE Island on Mare Island is a haunted house you want to check out. If you don’t know about Mare Island, it is an old Navy base, and is now filled with a ton of abandoned warehouses. At night, Mare Island is eerie enough, but its creepiness is amplified with tons of zombies. In the warehouse, they also have a pop up booth where you can get your palm read or purchase potions and spells. If your kid loves scary things, then it might be okay. Otherwise, be warned that it is definitely startling.
  1. If you are artsy, Fairfield is offering a Halloween doormat making class. This could be a fun place to go with the girls or bring your family. The instructor will guide you the whole time, and it gives you a chance to be creative and get into the Halloween spirit. If you only buy one ticket, your child will still be allowed to help out with the mat and provide their creative ideas.
  1. On October 26, 2024, our annual Costume Contest and Sidewalk Stroll will be hosted on First Street. Make sure to dress up and bring your furry friends to the Canine and Critter costume contest for awards and treats. Win the spookiest pet! This also gives you a chance to check out our shops and buy locally.

There are tons of other events coming up, so make sure to keep an eye out for one that may strike your fancy. Whether it is for fall or Halloween, I’m sure the leaves will be pretty and the vibes will be great.
