The rising pop star, Chappel Roan, known for her drag-inspired artistry and music was nominated at the VMAS and ended up winning ‘Best New Artist’. During the red carpet walk, Chappel snapped at a cameraman when she overheard him yelling to “Shut the **** up.” She then responded, “No, you shut the **** up.” This reaction shocked people.
She later addressed the incident by saying, “For someone who gets a lot of anxiety around people yelling at you, the carpet is horrifying, and I yelled back. You don’t get to yell at me like that.” She has been praised for standing up for herself, though her attitude towards the public has been seen as defensive by some because of her recent posts on Instagram where she urges people to respect her privacy. There have been countless incidents of people stalking and demanding photos from Chappell, which angered some of her fans while others respected her stating her wishes
Overall, she has decided to take on an attitude that prevents her from falling victim to the industry, which has seemed to be working well for her.
