School Shootings Won’t Stop Until Gun Control Starts

By Rell Conley

On September 4th, there was another tragic shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia. Two students and two teachers were murdered by Colt Gray, who used an AR-15-style rifle that was gifted to him by his father, Colin Gray.

In October of 2023, Colt Gray was interviewed by local police who were investigating him for threatening to “shoot up the school.” After this interview, the case was dropped.

This deadly shooting on September 4th could have been prevented. This 14 year old should not have possessed this gun, especially an assault rifle.

In America, it is possible for nearly anyone to purchase a firearm. There are hardly any restrictions. There have been 417 school shootings since 1999, according to the Washington Post. By implementing gun control laws that make assault rifles illegal, the number of school shootings could drastically go down.

The main point is that no civilian needs a weapon capable of mass murder, and these dangerous weapons should be left to the military.
