An intense Madrid derby took place on Sunday of September 9th. A heated match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid showed the teams giving everything on the pitch to win, and it went down to the last minute. Throughout the game, the possession of the ball for both teams was a bit even; Atletico Madrid had 51% of the possession, while Real Madrid had 49% of the possession. Atletico Madrid fans had been throwing things at the Real Madrid players on the field, causing the game to be stopped for 15 minutes. One of the fans who threw something on the field was spotted with a knife in his pocket later after the game.
During the first half, both sides were taking back to back shots on each other’s goal. Kylian Mbappe missed the kick because of an injury that has set him back for about three weeks now. After the first half ended, it looked like the game would be a draw due to both teams dropping back a lot and playing more defensively than attacking. However, in the 64th minute off a freekick, Vini. Jr went down the left side and crossed to Eder Militao, who scored a power shot into the right side of the goal.
After the goal, Real Madrid looked like they were going to win this game. Real Madrid scored in the 64th minute, causing them to play defensively and hold the ball more in the next 30 minutes. This would end up hurting them, though, because rather than attacking in the 94th minute, Javi Golan would send a beautiful pass towards Angel Correa. He scored an equalizer to tie the game up, and the game ended 1-1. Vini. Jr finished the game with 1 assist, which was intended for Militao, and Eder Militao scored his first goal of the season for Real Madrid. Atletico Madrid player Javi Golan finished the game with 1 assist, and Angel Correa scored his second goal of the season for Atletico Madrid.
