The head coach of the New York Jets, Robert Saleh, was let go on October 8th. He was fired by Woody Johnson because of the team lagging behind. Another reason he was fired is because the Jets drafted Zach Wilson as a number 2 pick. This ended up being a major failure for the team, and Saleh was stuck with that selection.
Before the number 2 pick, Saleh had a lot going for him. He was a prime example of how to coach a team. Still, there was a turning point for Saleh when the Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers, who was a great player. But after he was traded, Rodgers tore his Achilles during the first four plays in the first game of the season. At this point, nothing was going in Saleh’s favor.
Although Saleh may have had a lot of moments where the team was not going in the right direction, he could have prevailed if he was given another chance. He was a pretty good coach, and most of these failings were not all Saleh’s fault.
Saleh could succeed if he coaches for a different team. I feel that his skills should not go to waste. He really knows how to coach, and it could just be the team that is the issue.
You can lose your job due to things out of your control, which is very unfair to the people working the jobs that they desire so much. Saleh was an outstanding defensive coach and had a lot of knowledge on how to properly coach defense. Something that proves this is that he had one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL still go 7-10.
Viewers’ opinions on Saleh shifted to him not holding his players accountable because of all the issues he had with his QB. Saleh could not catch a break when the people around him failed, and the blame, yet again, was pinned on him.
All in all, I think that Saleh should not have been fired. Working in the NFL might not always be fair, but I think that this decision will not help the Jets. Saleh knew how to coach the team very well, and it was just the players around him that failed miserably. If the Jets had a better pick and if Rodgers never got injured, perhaps Saleh’s career could have been turned around.
