In September, a Texas man purchased a Taylor Swift signed guitar for $4,000 at an auction just to destroy it with a hammer.
The attack on the guitar appears to be politically motivated, potentially due to Ms. Swift’s endorsement of presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The purpose of the auction was to raise money for charity. The $4,000 used to buy the guitar will be going to the National FFA Organization (Future Farmers of America)–a nonprofit organization that offers middle and high school classes that engage in agricultural education.
While the man was destroying the guitar, the audience cheered him on, and the man who handed him the guitar also gave him the hammer. This raises a question: was the guitar being sold so it could be destroyed? It seems like it would’ve been destroyed no matter who bought it.
