The Music Cycle

By Ryan Afable

Music is something that everyone enjoys, ranging from different genres and different eras of music. All of the genres and eras are really important for the music industry and all have contributed as a whole.

Cher—who was the first artist to use auto tune in her song, Believe, which was released 1998—really put auto tune into the mainstream. A few artists that are known for using auto tune are T-Pain, who started using it in the 2000s, and Kanye West, who used it in many songs.

Michael Jackson, who basically revolutionized the music industry during the early to mid 1980s, is known as the “King of Pop.” He made Thriller, which took the industry by storm with 66 million copies sold of this album. He is also known for his music videos. His “Thriller” music video had a $900,000 budget. It had very elaborate scenes, and was basically a mini movie with costumes and actors with lines.

The Beatles, a popular band, formed in 1960 and broke apart in 1970. The Beatles were the first rock band to have a concert in a stadium, which many artists do nowadays. They were also the first band to bring the idea of looping sounds into the mainstream, which is almost always used in music now. They were the first to use guitar feedback on the track “I Feel Fine.”

All of the artists have worked hard to perfect their craft and all have brought new and smart innovations that have had lasting effects on the music industry as a whole. They have all worked to make music what it is today.
