49ers vs Chiefs: Super Bowl Rematch

By Jacob Bugarin

Well, 49ers fans, the Kansas City Chiefs‒the team that beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl 58‒is coming to Levi’s Stadium on October 20th. Right now the Kansas Chiefs are currently 5-0, while the 49ers are 3-3.

Since they have another game against each other without the stakes being high, what is the difference between the teams? Who has an edge on the offense and the defensive side of the ball? Who’s playing better right now? Then, the big question: who can come in the clutch? Brock Purdy or Patrick Mahomes?

Team Comparison

Here is how I am going to compare it, I am going to group every position and see who has the edge.

Quarterbacks: Chiefs

As much as I know Brock Purdy is balling out of his mind. The Chiefs have a three time Super Bowl champ and have proven himself so much more. The games he has played bad in, Mahomes has found ways to win.

Running Backs: 49ers

Even without CMC, the 49ers  have a running back named Jordan Mason who has been balling out. Though he doesn’t have the same impact as Christian McCaffrey, he has been rushing well, going for a hundred yards in most of his games. Though Kareem Hunt just had 107 yards against the Saints, the 49ers run scheme is really good and just has shades of CMC in each running back.

Wide Receivers/Tight ends: 49ers

Yes,  the Chiefs wide receivers are good, but they also have to realize that Mahomes is a generational quarterback that can make anyone look good. Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Geroge Kittle compared to Juju-Smith Schuster, Xavier Worthy, and Travis Kelce reveals that the 49ers have a better lineup, giving the 49ers the edge on this.

Offensive line: Chiefs

Let’s make this short and simple, the Chiefs have a top-5 offensive line in the league while the 49ers have one the worst lines in the league. Though the 49ers do have Trent Williams at tackle and Dominic Puni at right guard, the 49ers can’t even protect Purdy for a while allowing one of the most pressures.

Defense: Chiefs

Recently the 49ers defense has been getting cooked recently. Roster wise for the 49ers, they do have Nick Bosa, Fred Warner (who’s the best linebacker in the league), and Deommodore Lenoir (who has been stepping up). While the 49ers have rookies who are able to step up, the Chiefs defense hasn’t been as bad as the 49ers. They haven’t been getting cooked like the 49ers, despite having a less talented roster as the 49ers. So the Chiefs really have an edge.

This scores 3-2 Chiefs having an edge on the 49ers, which means Chiefs have a better chance of winning. The Chiefs are playing well in the respected positions, but that doesn’t mean the 49ers don’t have a chance. This game will certainly be a thrill to watch on Sunday.
